Visit to the organic cotton farmers
The farmers are looking forward to a successful cotton harvest.
Since our founding, we have used only fair-trade organic cotton from Remei, which has been awarded the bioRe® Sustainable Cotton quality label. This is produced in direct and participatory cooperation with around 5,000 small farmers from India and Tanzania. We are therefore pleased that Marion Röttges and Jasmin Kurmann from Remei were on site. They visited Remei India and the cooperating farmers in Kasrawad, Central India.
A cotton year rich in harvests
The farmers in Kasrawad had good news for the Remei employees. Despite heavy rains this year, they have had a good cotton harvest. Compared to the last few, the harvest years were very difficult. Accordingly, we are looking forward to a successful cotton harvest.
Our Indian contract farmers are paid directly for their produce. In addition, they receive a premium of 15% for their performance in the organic sector, on the average cotton market price of the past five years.
Quote from Jasmin
«It makes me happy to be back in the organic cotton fields in Kasrawad after several years – at the beginning of a transparent and fair supply chain. Full of pride, the farmers and the colleagues from Remei India led us through the “white” fields, ready for harvest. It made me realize how much the farmers enjoy doing the hard work here and what a great value organic farming has for nature and the community.
At the industrial production partners’, we visited the individual stages of the value chain: knitting, dyeing, cutting, printing, sewing, quality control and packaging. The personal exchange and insight into the productions is valuable and strengthens the partnership.
For me, it is especially nice to share this experience with WE ARE ZRCL.»
At the end of November 2015, Kilian, CEO & Founder of WE ARE ZRCL visited the organic cotton farmers and the people in charge of Remei India for the first time. In the video he shares his impressions.
«The trip to India left a great, positive impression on me. I particularly appreciated the honest insight into the work of the farmers and textile workers on site and the opportunity to exchange ideas with them directly. Even today, I can say with certainty: ZRCL is streetwear without secrets.»
